Danny B Joyner – Businessman and Man of Faith and Family
Danny learned his values of faith, hard work and love for America at an early age from his parents, teachers, and coaches in Brewton where he grew up. He also learned the value of a dollar starting early on when he was required to get a special permit at the age of 13 in order to work at the local five & dime stocking shelves. Before that, he and his brother had a lawn mowing business.
Forty years later, Danny is now a small business owner of Safety & Security, Inc. of Brewton, Alabama. As CEO, Danny assists and advises companies with safety compliance issues as well as providing security plans for corporate work sites. An occasional “fun assignment” in the past has been to provide undercover security for some well known country singers, including Garth Brooks and the Oakridge Boys. Before starting his own company in 1991, Danny served as a police officer and a deputy sheriff for 15 years. During that time, Danny held various leadership positions, including Vice President of the Alabama Police Officers Association and Chapter Coordinator with the Fraternal Order of Police. He also earned Officer of the Year in 1983.
When Danny’s not working at his company, he’s very involved in his community and church. Danny and his family are active members at First Baptist Church of Brewton where he teaches Sunday School and serves as a lay speaker. Along with sharing his faith, Danny is a strong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and an advocate for organ and blood donation because of his strong belief in the sanctity of life. When his sister needed a kidney, Danny stepped up and donated one of his. He is also pretty proud of his 13 gallon blood donation pin and encourages others to do the same. Other past community organizations to which Danny has dedicated time and finances include Community Theater, Feed the Children – an effort sponsored by the Oakridge Boys, Kiwanis, Lions Club and the Jaycees.
Of all the “titles” that Danny has held, however, the most important to him is “husband, father and grandfather.” Danny and Louise have been married for 34 years, had two sons, Darren and Brock, and now one grandson, Jeremiah Brock. In 1998, Danny and Louise lost their youngest son, Brock, to Muscular Dystrophy, without question the hardest year of their family’s life. When asked, Danny gladly shares that their son was a Christian making their loss a little less painful knowing their son was in a better place. Soon after, Danny and Louise were glad to welcome a daughter in the family when their son, Darren, married Daphne Bagget, and equally overjoyed when their grandson was born.
After seeing the affect of many of the decisions coming out of Washington and Montgomery, many leaders in the district encouraged Danny to run as our next State Senator because of his leadership, his values and his deep community roots. They know they can count on Danny to do the right thing.
